Britain’s Finance Minister Replaced: British Prime Minister John Major replaced controversial Finance Minister Norman Lamont in a long-expected Cabinet reshuffle aimed at restoring his Conservative government’s authority and image. Major named Home Secretary Kenneth Clarke as his new Chancellor of the Exchequer but said economic policy will remain unchanged, with pursuit of non-inflationary growth the top priority as Britain emerges from the bitter recession that cost Lamont his job.
