VENTURA : 3 Students Expelled for Carrying Knives

Three high school juniors have been expelled by the Ventura Unified School District for carrying knives on campus, a school official said.
The students, two from Ventura High and one from Buena High, were caught by campus aides, said Wayne Toscas, a district official in charge of disciplinary matters.
The three juniors, all carrying knives with small blades, waived their right to a hearing and accepted the yearlong expulsions, Toscas said.
Bringing a weapon on campus results in an automatic expulsion, Toscas said. Sixteen of the 19 expulsions by the district this school year have been for weapons.
“We’ve drawn the line on weapons,” Toscas said, “and we’ve made a great effort to communicate that.”
