BAALBEK, Lebanon — A car bomb exploded Sunday in eastern Lebanon, killing a member of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group and seriously wounding another.
Police said the blast occurred in the village of Nabha, 13 miles northwest of Baalbek, a traditional Hezbollah stronghold in the eastern Bekaa Valley.
The Baalbek region forms the main supply base for Shiite Muslim Hezbollah, which has been fighting a guerrilla war against the Israeli occupation of a strip of land in southern Lebanon and opposes any compromise with the Jewish state.
Hezbollah member Fuad Amhaz died instantly in the blast. His cousin, Imad Amhaz, was taken to a Baalbek hospital.
Police gave no further details about the explosion, and there was no immediate comment from Hezbollah.
