VENICE : $25,000 Reward Posted in Gang-Related Slayings

The Los Angeles City Council has posted a $25,000 reward for information leading to additional arrests in the string of gang-related killings in the Venice area since September.
“We have had up to 11 killings, and up to 30 shootings last month alone. And, frankly, we need to get this stopped,” Councilwoman Ruth Galanter said.
The Oakwood area of Venice has had what police say is the bloodiest gang war on the Westside in more than a decade.
The shootings have led many residents to remain indoors at night. Teachers at a preschool have kept youngsters from playing outside for two weeks.
Police say two local gangs have been at war since the slaying of one gang member in September. The fighting reached its peak in November, when police say seven people were killed in retaliatory attacks. Arrests have been made in two of the slayings.
