Stepan Corp.: The chemical company, which had been fined $4.7 million by the Environmental Protection Agency, has settled the dispute for $75,000, the company said Tuesday. The EPA fined Stepan in September for allegedly making three chemicals at its plants without prior federal approval. The company, at its plants in Anaheim and in Winder, Ga., makes chemicals used in household, industrial, personal-care, agricultural and energy-related products. The company is headquartered in Northfield, Ill., and employs more than 1,000 people in Anaheim.
