LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Retired Captain Named as Sheriff’s Ombudsman

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has selected a retired Los Angeles police captain, Rudy De Leon, 70, as the Sheriff Department’s first ombudsman to hear citizen complaints lodged against the agency.
Establishment of an ombudsman was one of the recommendations of the 1992 report prepared by special counsel James G. Kolts that called for reforms in the Sheriff’s Department.
De Leon been special assistant to the state attorney general and deputy secretary of the state Youth and Adult Corrections agency. He will be paid $60,200 a year.
