BUENA PARK : Council to Comment on Fire Services Plan

It will be the turn of city officials and staff tonight to comment on a proposal for Buena Park to contract fire services with Orange County Fire Department.

The council has already had two public information meetings, during which residents have asked hundreds of question about the proposal, but today’s 5 p.m. session will focus on comments from city staff and council members.

The public will also be able to address the council.

Another public hearing and the council decision is expected at the May 16 meeting.

Under the county’s contract proposal, one of the city’s four engine companies would be eliminated.

The county is offering two options. Under one, the city would pay $4.7 million a year and would add a fourth firefighter to one firetruck, which has aerial and rescue equipment.

The second option would cost $4.4 million and keep the truck company at its current level of three firefighters.

The meeting will be at the council’s chambers, 6650 Beach Blvd. For more information, call (714) 562-3500.
