Secondhand Smoke Suit Seeks $650 Million: The family of a Mississippi barber who died of lung cancer is suing the tobacco industry. The suit alleges that Burl Butler, a nonsmoker, contracted cancer after inhaling tobacco smoke at the barber shop he ran for 35 years in Laurel, Miss. The suit names as defendants six companies and their corporate parents, including RJR Nabisco and Philip Morris. The attorney for Philip Morris said the defendants stand by their earlier position that the hazards of secondhand smoke have not been proved.
