The National Federation Wrestling Rules Committee has adjusted weight classes in high school wrestling--its first change since 1988--in an attempt to provide more opportunities in the lower and upper weight categories.
The bottom weight class has been changed from 103 to 100 pounds, followed by a 106-pound class. The other change is an addition of a 215-pound class, bridging the gap between the 185 and 275 classes.
The changes, a result of the committee’s review of a national survey, are mandatory beginning with the 1995-96 season and optional by state association adoption next season.
