Authorities on Wednesday continued to search for a 27-year-old man who wandered away from Camarillo State Hospital.
Scott Tipton is deaf, developmentally disabled and cannot communicate, said Myron Dimmett, spokesman for Camarillo State Hospital. Hospital officials say he is not considered a threat to the public.
Staff members discovered Tipton missing about 8 p.m. Sunday, Dimmett said. He had been playing baseball with several other patients.
“We’re not sure how he got out,” Dimmett said.
Tipton escaped once a few years ago, but was found quickly, Dimmett said.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team and hospital staff members searched unsuccessfully for Tipton along Potrero Road and Las Posas Road on Wednesday, Dimmett said.
Tipton was last seen wearing a gray sweat shirt and gray pants. He is 5-foot-5 and weighs about 155 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
