Some of the nation’s top swimmers will gather for four days of competition starting today at the 25th Swim Meet of Champions at the Marguerite Aquatics Complex in Mission Viejo.
The event, hosted by the Mission Viejo Nadadores, features Placentia’s Janet Evans, two-time Olympic medal winner and world-record holder, Olympians Jeff Rouse and Angie Wester-Krieg, Stanford breaststroker Kristine Quance and local prep sensation Derya Buyukuncu.
Nadadores Coach Bill Rose said this meet kicks off the summer’s senior meets, which lead to the World Championships in Rome in September.
“A lot of top swimmers compete in this meet because it allows them to see where they are in their training and how well they’ll do against other top competitors,” Rose said.
Preliminaries start at 9 a.m with finals scheduled for 5 p.m. today through Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. Full session tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children. Day passes are $7 for adults and $2 for children.
