Coach: Rich Medellin (fifth year).
1993: Empire League champions; undefeated in league dual meets; runners-up at the Orange County Championships.
Key returners: Carrie Caulkins, Sr.; Katie De Freise, So.; Courtney Pugmire, Sr.; Chantelle Rodrigues, Sr.; Crystal Smith, Jr.; Jenny Titus, Sr.
Key newcomers: Joanna Ho, So.; Inshirah Jones, Sr.; Heather Perrin, Jr.; Jennifer Walters, Jr.
Outlook: The Aztecs are on a mission this season, having lost the Orange County Championships title to Edison on the sixth-runner rule last year, then failing to advance as a team to the CIF State finals. Medellin has one of the state’s strongest trio leading the way again. Caulkins, Pugmire and Titus each advanced to the State Division I finals last season. Caulkins, who finished fourth at the county meet, earned Times Orange County first-team honors. Pugmire and Titus, who finished ninth and 11th at the county race, garnered second-team honors. Perrin was the Aztecs’ leading 400-meter runner in track last spring.
