Hyundai to Buy NCR Chip Unit From AT&T;: Hyundai Electronics America, claiming the largest direct investment in the United States by a South Korean company, said it is buying the computer chip unit from AT&T; Corp. for $300 million. The acquisition is significant for the size of the direct investment. Korean companies historically have not been aggressive in acquisitions and direct investments in the global market, said Hyundai Electronics America Treasurer C.S. Jung. The U.S. subsidiary of South Korea’s Hyundai Electronics Industries Co. said the deal includes the patents and certain trademarks now owned by NCR Microelectronic Products Division.
