Security Council Leaves Iraq Sanctions Intact

UNITED NATIONS — The Security Council decided Thursday to make no changes in sanctions imposed on Iraq after its August, 1990, invasion of Kuwait, council members said.
Russian U.N. envoy Sergei Lavrov expressed regret that no move had yet been made to ease the curbs, to encourage Iraqi compliance with Persian Gulf War resolutions.
The sanctions, which include a ban on the sale of Iraqi oil, have remained unchanged since they were first imposed. The council reviews them every 60 days.
