Trainer Comes Up Big to End Winless Slump

After going winless through the first 12 days of the Santa Anita meeting, trainer Mike Mitchell shook his slump in a big way Friday.
He lost with his first two starters, then won with his final four, the eighth time in Santa Anita history a trainer has won four races on a single program.
After Toknight finished fifth in the first race and Allessea second in the second, Mitchell scored with Kicken It, a gelding he recently claimed for $12,500, in the fourth race. He then won the sixth with 7-1 shot Stage Fighter and swept the late double with Mr Peter P. and Icy Luck.
It was the first four-winner day for a trainer locally since Richard Mandella did it on Breeders’ Cup Day in 1993.
