World IN BRIEF : OCCUPIED WEST BANK : Protest Against Settlers Is Violent

A protest against the expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank turned violent when Palestinians torched a trailer and settlers responded with a volley of gunfire. No one was hurt in the confrontation outside Maaleh Amos, an isolated Jewish enclave 12 miles south of Jerusalem. But it was the most violent in a month-old settlers campaign to stake claim on land before Palestinian autonomy expands.
