DANA POINT : Public Is Asked for Ideas on Headlands

The public is invited to offer thoughts about the controversial plan for the Dana Point Headlands at a Planning Commission meeting tonight.
“We are just looking for public input,” said Ed Knight, the city’s director of community development. “We are trying to get a feel for what people think of the general plan for the Headlands.”
A staff presentation will provide background on a plan that would have allowed a 400-room hotel and 370 houses on the 121-acre parcel.
That plan was rejected by voters in a citywide referendum last November.
The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
Also tonight, the City Council will meet at 7. The agenda includes a recommendation that the city join a countywide fire district.
Concerns that the fire district agreement would have the power of taxation and an ability to charge fees have delayed the council’s action, Councilman William L. Ossenmacher said.
That meeting will be at the Community Center, 43052 Del Obispo St., Room B.
