AMR Corp. to Eliminate About 1,000 Jobs: The parent of American Airlines is taking the action as part of its effort to cut management costs by $75 million, a spokesman for the Dallas-based company said. The airline is expected to announce the cuts after a meeting Wednesday of the AMR board. At that meeting, according to published reports, Robert Crandall may give up his title of president. He would remain chairman and chief executive, but the presidency position would be used to groom a successor, analysts have speculated. Analysts’ speculation has Donald Carty, executive vice president for finance and planning, and Robert Baker, executive vice president for operations, in the running.
