Grace Gets Offer to Buy Dialysis Unit: W.R. Grace & Co. received a $3.5-billion offer for its dialysis company, National Medical Care Inc., from the subsidiary’s top executive and co-founder. The offer came after Grace disclosed that National Medical was the subject of two federal grand jury investigations, and the subsidiary’s chairman, Dr. Constantine Hampers, was passed over for the top job with Grace. Albert Costello, a former American Cyanamid Co. chairman who won the competition Monday to become Grace’s president and chief executive, said Hampers’ offer, including $3 billion cash, “would be considered by the board in due course.”
