Cleanup Day to Have Bins for Large Items

Port Hueneme residents can save the cost of a special garbage pickup by bringing their large items to bins located around the city on Saturday.
The city is holding its annual Neighborhood Cleanup Day from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bins will be at 17 locations throughout Port Hueneme so residents can dispose of refuse not accepted during normal pickup, such as large furniture, carpets and building materials.
The cost for a pickup of items too large to fit in normal containers starts at $15 and increases depending on the item’s size, but the fee will be waived on Saturday.
The city will not accept recyclable and toxic items such as tires, appliances and motor oil.
Port Hueneme public works supervisor Frank Mosqueda said the city needs volunteers to monitor the bins to ensure that no one deposits those items.
