Northridge Wants Wiesner

NORTHRIDGE — Former Cal Poly Pomona Coach Brian Wiesner has been recommended by a selection committee for the newly created women’s soccer coaching position at Cal State Northridge.
Wiesner, 36, coached the men’s and women’s programs at Pomona for the past five seasons. He started the Pomona women’s program in 1983.
He will face a similar task at Northridge, which will field a women’s soccer team for the first time in the fall.
Wiesner’s hiring must be formally approved by the Northridge administration, but he is expected to assume his position next week.
He resigned both Pomona posts in December.
The women’s soccer program was started after Northridge students voted last spring to increase semester fees by $27 to fund athletics. The program is part of Northridge’s compliance with Cal State University gender-equity provisions.
