Earth Day Reminds Us to Do the Right Thing

* The 25th Earth Day certainly pushed my guilt buttons. In your story “Valley Celebrants Mark Earth Day’s 25th Year” (April 23), the day’s events were regarded as kitsch, commercial and campy.
Whatever the approach, Earth Day is a time of awareness, and it made me realize how much I am not doing to contribute.
Recycling is a great start, but what about excessive water use, and how many unused napkins we discard when we are dining out? We tend to jump in the car to go short distances instead of walking, and how about all that litter?
The pace of this city and my constantly on-the-go lifestyle is no excuse. We owe it to the next generation.
Thank you, environmentalists. I’m grateful for the much-needed reminder!
