Sheriff Richard Mack

Re “Arizona Sheriff Sticks to His Guns,” May 2: Your reporter writes that Graham County, Ariz., Sheriff Richard Mack “is not an easy man to characterize.”
Well, let’s see if I have this right. Sheriff Mack believes that the IRS is a “terrorist threat” to the American people. He believes that the people in Waco who fired at and killed legitimate government agents coming to serve a legal warrant were innocent victims. He thinks the government is secretly having him followed.
I don’t see the problem in characterizing him. The man is a wacko.

Why is it the media refer to the heavily armed paranoid militia in our midst as “superpatriots” when “supertraitors” would be far more accurate? America, a nation of laws, is the freest nation on the globe but these paranoids say over and over that armed violence against our government is the only way to change our government.
And when a law enforcement officer like Sheriff Mack says that he will only enforce the laws that he thinks right, it is certainly time for something to be done to convince Mack otherwise--that is, if we want to remain a nation governed by laws.
