Those Were the Days

Oh lyrical, lyrical Wanda Coleman, (“Rides of Spring,” On the Town, March 26). I was taken down that “Ribbon of Highway” by your beautiful prose, and it evoked such wonderful memories.
I met my husband, Bob, when he was in his 50s and I was in my 40s. When we were dating, we’d do exactly what you described: take some favorite drives, up Pacific Coast Highway to Ventura, from the Valley through Topanga Canyon to the beach, and up the view hill above Long Beach. Sometimes we would park and watch the planes taking off at Playa del Rey.
Bob passed away last October, but I know he would have loved your column.
