Gift To The World, the 7-5 favorite in the field of five fillies and mares, won the $54,000 allowance feature at Hollywood Park by 3 1/2 lengths under Goncalino Almeida on Thursday.
Gift To The World, a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of His Majesty, was in third place to the half-mile point of the 1 1/16-mile race, moved into second on the far turn, then overtook the pace-setting Northwest Storm in the early stretch and drew clear under mild encouragement by Almeida.
She paid $4.80, $2.80 and $2.60. Northwest Storm, ridden by Fernando Valenzuela, was second, a half-length in front of Anelda, who was ridden by Patrick Valenzuela.
Northwest Storm paid $3.80 and $2.80 in finishing second for the fifth time in a row. Anelda returned $3.20 to show.
Mystical Sky and Iddy Biddy Dollar completed the order of finish.
Gift To The World, trained by Ron McAnally, covered the distance on a fast track in 1:43 2/5 under 118 pounds. The victory, Gift To The World’s fourth in 13 starts, was worth $29,700 to owner Verne H. Winchell.
