The owner of an Echo Park apartment house was ordered to pay $9,029 in fines and given a deadline to repair building code violations at the building, according to the Los Angeles city attorney’s office.
Jose A. Hernandez, 50, pleaded no contest last week to eight building code violations at the three-story, 20-unit apartment at 1000 Echo Park Ave., said Deputy City Atty. Del C. San Juan. Los Angeles Municipal Court Commissioner Barry Kohn placed Hernandez on two years’ probation and ordered him to make building repairs by Aug. 11.
City inspectors earlier this year found defective windows and plumbing fixtures, a lack of exit lighting, broken smoke detectors and cockroach infestation at the building.
