Jensen Reveals Embarrassment Led to Unusual Disappearance

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Murphy Jensen doesn’t understand why so much fuss was made about his no-show for a mixed doubles match at Wimbledon, which resulted in a default.
Jensen said Saturday it was simply a matter of being late for work, and that he was a bit embarrassed to face his family and the press right away.
“I defaulted because I lost track of time and was late for work. It’s not like I swore at an official or mooned the Queen of England,” Jensen said between clinics at the Special Olympics World Games.
Jensen, who won the doubles title at the French Open in 1993, said it was only the second time he has defaulted in his life.
Making his first public appearance since disappearing last Monday, Jensen, 26, said the situation was blown out of proportion because it was at Wimbledon.
“Actually, this is the most amazing thing,” he said. “I think I’ve gotten more press for being late for a match than winning the French Open. It’s frightening.”
Jensen said he flew to Scotland immediately after defaulting.
