SANTA BARBARA--If you can-can, head north for the eighth annual Santa Barbara French Festival, July 15-16. The Bastille Day weekend event, celebrating French cuisine and culture, is 11 a.m.-7 p.m. in Oak Park (take the Pueblo or Mission exit from U.S. 101). Highlights include: creations by dozens of chefs, live entertainment on two stages, a poodle parade and more. Free. (805) 564-PARIS.
SANTA YNEZ--Another Bastille Day celebration is planned at Sunstone Vineyards and Winery. A croissant picnic lunch and wine tasting is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. July 15 at the winery, 125 Refugio Road. $10. Reservations required. (800) 313-WINE.
SONOMA--Sample this area’s food, wine, art and literature at the 10th annual Salute to the Arts, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. July 15-16 (food and wine tasting is 11 a.m.-5 p.m.). Chefs, winemakers, artists and local authors are showcased in downtown’s Sonoma Plaza. Free admission. PALO ALTO--The annual Palo Alto Clay and Glass Festival shimmers with works by more than 80 artists, July 15-16 at the Palo Alto Cultural Center, 1313 Newell Road. Vessels and other creations are exhibited and sold in a garden setting, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. Free. (415) 329-2366.
SAN LUIS OBISPO--Jousting, rounders, ceremonies, theater and music are among the colorful offerings at the Renaissance Festival, July 15-16 and 22-23 at El Chorro Regional Park. Participants in period dress bring Renaissance culture to the Central Coast, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily. $7, general; $5, kids 6-12 and seniors; free for kids under 6 ($20 for all four days).
