Car Conversion Company, Battery Maker Sign Deal: Battery Automated Transportation, a small Burbank-based company that converts gasoline vehicles to electric power, said it will commercialize and distribute a fiber nickel cadmium battery made by Acme Electric Corp. of Phoenix. The battery is currently in use, primarily to power backup systems, in F-16 military aircraft, but it would be modified for electric cars under the agreement. Battery Automated said it expects to install a working battery in a vehicle within nine months. Calstart, the public-private consortium promoting advances in California’s transportation industry, will assess the battery.
