Chrysler Takes $243-Million Charge to Cut Shift: The Highland Park, Mich.-based auto maker said the 36-cents-a-share charge will cover unemployment benefits, other employee costs and the write-down of equipment and tooling for the cut at its Newark, Del., plant. Chrysler Corp. said in May that it would cut the shift because of declining sales. It cut its projection for total U.S. 1995 vehicle sales to 14.9 million from 15.2 million since a 30% sales drop in April.
