PLACENTIA : Official Opposes Property Tax Diversion

The city’s finance director is urging citizens to voice their opposition to legislation that proposes to divert some property tax revenue to the county for the next 20 years to help it recover from bankruptcy.
“All of us need to fight this thing,” Howard Longballa said during a public hearing at last week’s City Council meeting.
Under legislation sponsored by state Sen. Lucy Killea (I-San Diego), 4% of city property taxes would go to the county, with the rate eventually rising to 16%.
More than $3 million in property taxes was collected from Placentia’s 45,000 residents last year, Longballa said, accounting for 25% of the city’s general fund.
