Ex-Champion Mendoza Wins Close Decision

Former World Boxing Association junior featherweight champion Luis Mendoza of Los Angeles won a majority 10-round decision over Ericel Nucamendi of Chiapas, Mexico, in the main event at the Forum on Monday night.
There were no knockdowns in the featherweight match. Mendoza won by scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 95-95, improving his record to 37-5-2 with 20 knockouts. Nucamendi fell to 14-4-1.
In the semi-main fight, also involving featherweights, Juan Manuel Marquez won his 11th consecutive by knocking out Julio Cesar Portillo in the sixth round. Marquez, of Mexico City, improved his record to 11-1. Portillo fell to 14-4-1.
