Pacoima : Murder Charge Filed in Shooting

Authorities Tuesday filed a murder charge against a 19-year-old alleged gang member from Pacoima in connection with the shooting death of a 40-year-old Encino man last month.
Los Angeles Police Detective Frank Bishop said Jose Alvarez shot Jose Luis Ganica while Ganica stood at Oneida Avenue and Van Nuys Boulevard in Pacoima the morning of June 25.
The night before, Bishop said, Ganica, who lived with his sister in Encino but hung out in Pacoima, had gotten into a fight with some of Ganica’s fellow gang members, authorities said.
Armed with a semiautomatic handgun, Alvarez took revenge by shooting Ganica numerous times in the head and torso, Bishop said.
Alvarez was arrested Friday night when he was seen on a Pacoima street. He is being held at Los Angeles County Jail.
