Ventura County Medical Center plans to open a satellite health-care clinic in Piru in November, officials said.
The new clinic will operate out of a portable building that will be moved from the hospital campus in Ventura to Piru, said Dr. Pierre Durand, hospital administrator.
The clinic, which would be the eighth of its kind in the county, would provide health care to residents of Fillmore and Piru, who must now travel to Santa Paula or Ventura for medical care.
The clinic will be staffed by two doctors and is expected to be open about 2 1/2 days a week, Durand said. He expects patient visits to run between eight and 100 a month, he said.
The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a 10-year lease for a clinic site in Piru. The lease, which will be paid for out of the public hospital’s budget, calls for rent payments of $500 a month, with a 3% increase each year.
In addition to Santa Paula and Ventura, the county operates satellite clinics in Oxnard, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and Moorpark.
