OJAI : Elderly Man Found Dead in Swim Pool

An Ojai man died Wednesday after being found at the bottom of a swimming pool at the Mira Valle Community Mobile Home Park on Loma Drive.
John Boyle, 68, had been alone in the pool in about four feet of water shortly before he drowned, according to park manager Gordon Talley.
Talley said that after spending a few minutes in a meeting, he went outside and saw Boyle at the bottom of the pool.
Talley said he and his assistant manager, Wally Gordon, pulled Boyle out of the pool, called 911 and tried to perform CPR. Boyle, who had lived at the park for two months, was pronounced dead at Ojai Valley Hospital shortly afterward.
“He comes to the pool quite often,” Talley said. “But he doesn’t usually swim. He usually sits and reads.”
A sign warning that there is no lifeguard on duty hangs above the pool. Talley said the pool does not get used enough by the mostly elderly residents of the park to warrant a lifeguard.
