Stroh to Acquire Colt 45 Brewer: Detroit-based Stroh Brewery solidified its position as the nation’s No. 4 beer maker with its deal to buy struggling G. Heileman Brewing Co., which also makes Old Style and Lone Star beers. Analysts said the deal, which they estimated to be worth about $300 million, should help Stroh survive in the competitive and slow-growing beer market, dominated by giants Anheuser-Busch Cos. and Miller Brewing Co. Stroh will take over Heileman’s five breweries and a beverage plant. Stroh said it hopes to complete the deal by July 1. Stroh makes beer under such names as Old Milwaukee and Schlitz. It has five breweries and about 2,300 employees; Heileman has about 2,200 workers.
