Recreation, Tennis Center Fees Raised

An increase in fees to use the city’s recreation and tennis centers won City Council approval this week.
Individuals who have passes for Montanoso Recreation Center will pay $3 more a month, or $13. The rate for couples goes to $20 a month, up $5, while the cost for families rises to $30 a month, a $10 increase.
A city staff report said the increases are needed because of an increase in the number of people using the Montanoso center. That has required addition of exercise equipment and expanded services, such as longer baby-sitting hours, the staff reported.
The facility offers a lap pool, aerobics classes, table games, exercise equipment and outdoor basketball and tennis courts. The city began operating the Montanoso center in January 1995.
For individuals using the city tennis center on Marguerite Parkway, the monthly fee rises to $35 from $28. Couples will pay $45, up from $34; and families will be charged $75 a month, up from $40. The increase at the tennis center is the first since 1992.
City recreation staff members told the council that several improvements have been made to the tennis facilities, including court resurfacing, the purchase of two ball machines and remodeling of the clubhouse.
