SOUTH KOREA : 27 Die in Landslides Triggered by Rain

A trio of landslides near the border with North Korea killed at least 27 South Korean soldiers and buried about 60, an army spokesman said. Twenty of the soldiers were killed as they slept in a barracks in the frontier area of Cholwon in Kangwon province. The landslides, which struck over a period of two days, were triggered by torrential rain. Efforts to rescue the soldiers were being hampered by the poor weather.
