Rower David Collins of Thousand Oaks moved closer to a medal Friday when the U.S. lightweight coxless four won Heat 2 of the semifinals, edging Canada by a deck.
The six-boat finals are Sunday. In the light-weight division, which made its Olympic debut this year, each boat is limited to a per-rower average of 155 and no one can exceed 160 pounds.
Collins, who attended Westlake High, helped the Americans defeat Canada by 49/100 of a second.
