A mountain lion that wandered into Santa Paula on Wednesday was tranquilized and released into Los Padres National Forest, police said.
The young, 80-pound female was found in a tree beside an apartment building in the 100 block of Eliot Street about 10:30 a.m.
Santa Paula police surrounded the area and kept residents at bay until a game warden from the California Department of Fish and Game arrived. The lion fell from the tree after it was shot with a tranquilizer gun and was then transported to the forest, police said.
There were no injuries.
