Hearing Scheduled on Proposed Mortuary

A city zoning official will hold a public hearing later this month in Sherman Oaks to gather testimony about a proposal to convert a Van Nuys office building into a funeral home.
Located at 14601 Sherman Way, the building is the former San Fernando Valley site of the state Board of Equalization. Applicant Sharon Phillips is seeking a variance from the city’s municipal code to convert the site to a mortuary and funeral home.
If approved, the business would operate between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. seven days a week with no more than three days per month of extended hours until 11 p.m. The site would contain 101 parking spaces, 67 more than required by the municipal code.
The hearing will be at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Sherman Oaks Woman’s Club, 4808 Kester Ave. For more information, call (818) 756-8596.
