The Detroit Tigers placed pitcher C.J. Nitkowski on the 15-day disabled list because of a back strain. The 23-year-old left-hander is 2-3 with an 8.57 ERA this season. He surrendered eight hits and six runs over three innings in Detroit’s 13-7 victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday. The Tigers have not made a move to fill Nitkowski’s roster spot. . . .
