Defense Rests in Bomb Plot Trial

The defense rested in the trial of three Middle East militants charged with scheming to blow up 12 U.S. jetliners over Asia. Federal prosecutors in New York spent 12 weeks presenting their case, summoning 47 witnesses and introducing more than 1,000 exhibits into evidence. The defense wrapped up in four days, calling five witnesses and introducing 35 exhibits. Prosecutors say Ramzi Ahmed Yousef, aided by Wali Khan Amin Shah and Abdul Hakim Murad, planned to conceal bombs on planes headed for New York, Los Angeles and other U.S. cities to try to sway American support for Israel.
