SANTA BARBARA--Sand and surf are the backdrop for the eighth annual Santa Barbara International Jazz Festival, - Sept. 2. Swing, contemporary jazz, blues, Latin jazz and more will be heard on the beach, east of Stearn’s Wharf. 1-10 p.m. Saturday-Sunday; 1-7:30 p.m. Monday. General admission: $10 per day, $25 for a three-day pass. VIP admission: $20 per day and $50 for a three-day pass. “A Taste of Jazz” features food from area restaurants. (800) 480-FEST.
ARNOLD--The logging heritage of the Sierra Nevada is celebrated at the second annual Logging Jamboree, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 1. Featured: logging competitions, live music, wine and beer tasting, wood crafts and a silent auction. HEALDSBURG--Historic Healdsburg Plaza is the setting for the Healdsburg Antiques Fair, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 1. The free downtown event features about 100 antique vendors. (707) 433-4315.
SAN FRANCISCO--Explore the arts district of the Yerba Buena Gardens area during the second annual Gardens Gallery Walk, 4-9 p.m. Sept. 5. More than 30 galleries and museums open their doors during the self-guided walking tour, on and around Third and Mission streets. Maps available at participating venues. (415) 437-5760.
SAN DIEGO--Street Scene is back with more than 100 artists performing on 11 stages in 21 blocks of downtown’s historic Gaslamp Quarter, Sept. 6-8. Also offered: international arts and crafts, food booths and wine and beer gardens. Among the performers: Chaka Khan, Marcia Ball, the Bodeans, the Texas Tornados, the Village People, and Queen Ida and Her Zydeco Band. Friday-Saturday (for ages 21 and older only): $22 in advance; $25 at the gate. Sunday (all ages): $15 in advance; $18 at the gate; free for those 12 and under with an adult.
