San Clemente Wins Bolsa Grande Title

San Clemente won its first tournament title in five years, defeating Westminster, 61-51, in the Bolsa Grande girls’ basketball tournament Saturday.
Colleen Turnbull scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for San Clemente (6-3), which led, 14-7, after the first quarter. Kirsten Quade added 12 points and Kelly Kruger, who was named tournament MVP, had five points, five assists and six steals.
In the third-place game:
Huntington Beach 61, South Torrance 56--Stephanie Draeger scored 15 points and had 15 rebounds and Phouangmaly Pravongviengkham added 22 points for Huntington Beach.
In the Artesia/Brethren Christian tournament:
Brethren Christian 45, Loara 38--Junior MacDonald scored 16 points in a consolation victory for tournament host Brethren Christian.
In the Gary Raya Coed Classic:
Aliso Niguel 43, El Dorado 38--Brooke Hyman scored 19 points and Celene Paramo added 16 for Aliso Niguel. The Wolverines outscored El Dorado, 6-0, in the final two minutes of play.
In the championship game of the Lake Highland Prep (Fla.) girls’ basketball tournament:
Fort Lauderdale South Broward 50, Edison 40--The Chargers missed all nine of their shots from the floor in the third quarter and were outscored, 14-3, after leading by three at the half. Shauna Steward had 10 points for Edison (8-1).
