PORT HUENEME — A 23-year-old sailor died Sunday morning after a motorcycle accident on the Port Hueneme Navy base.
Charles Andrew Tuttle, who was stationed at the base, was riding his motorcycle in a parking lot between two barracks about 11:35 p.m. Saturday when he struck a light pole, authorities said.
Tuttle, whose family lives in New York, was not wearing a helmet, said Senior Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens.
Tuttle was taken by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard for treatment. He was pronounced dead at 5:25 a.m. Sunday, Stevens said.
The cause of death was head trauma, he said.
Authorities suspect Tuttle may have been drinking before the accident. Results of a toxicology report will not be ready for about six weeks.
