Snyder: At Least the Band Was Good

Arizona State Coach Bruce Snyder, on his first Rose Bowl experience:
“It was the 1957 game, Iowa and Oregon State. I was a junior at El Monte High School and I volunteered to drive a Rose Parade float because they gave you a free ticket to the game. Also, I figured it would be a great way to meet beautiful girls, but they assigned me to the Salvation Army float.
“By the time the parade was over and I got the thing parked, the game was in the third quarter. I never saw it.”
Iowa won, 35-19.

Rose Bowl trivia: Had Ohio State not lost to Michigan, the Rose Bowl game would have its first matchup of unbeaten, untied teams since 1931, when Alabama (9-0) beat Washington State (9-0), 24-0.
However, there have since been six matchups of unbeaten teams with ties. Most recent: USC (10-0-1) 17, Ohio State (11-0) 16, in 1980.
