Shaq Nominated; Ceballos Practices

Cedric Ceballos practiced Tuesday for the first time since tearing a tendon in his right knee nearly eight weeks ago, but he does not figure to be activated right away.
The Lakers want him to have a few hard workouts so they can make sure the knee can stand the additional stress and so Ceballos can regain his conditioning and timing. Tuesday’s practice was only a short step in that direction since only six players, all reserves, participated. The starters had the day off.
Ceballos, who hurt the knee landing awkwardly after a layup Nov. 13 at San Antonio, would not talk to reporters afterward.
Coach Del Harris said Ceballos was in good condition, but not in basketball condition. “We want to get in a couple of hard practices before we make a decision,” he added.
Since the Lakers play twice in the next three days and are scheduled to be off Saturday, it could be close to a week before a roster move is made. Guard Rumeal Robinson is a likely candidate for the injured list or waivers.
Then the decisions really begin for Harris. Available minutes have already been scarce, especially since the emergence of Kobe Bryant last week, and Ceballos’ return will complicate the distribution process even more.
