The Monroe High girls’ soccer team played its first game in almost a month Tuesday, but the layoff didn’t seem to bother Ruth Hebert.
Hebert scored all the goals and the Vikings routed Van Nuys, 6-0, in a Mid-Valley League opener at Monroe.
Monroe (3-1), defending City Section 3-A champion, last played Dec. 18, when it beat Canoga Park, 5-0. Hebert had three goals in that game.
North Hollywood 5, Sylmar 0--Cathleen Sullivan scored two first-half goals and goalies Traci Noblitt and Dara Zeehandelaar combined for the Huskies’ first shutout of the season in a Mid-Valley League opener at North Hollywood.
Poly 5, Reseda 0--Jessica Sierra and Kathy Vasquez each scored two goals for the Parrots (1-1-2) in a Mid-Valley League game at Poly.
Crescenta Valley 5, Pasadena 2--Stephanie Rigamet and Rebecca Hidalgo both scored twice for the Falcons in a Pacific League match at Pasadena.
Antelope Valley 2, Littlerock 1--Second-half goals by Veronica Aranzubian lifted the Antelopes (3-4) in a Golden League match at Antelope Valley.
Joanna Chacon made three saves.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Burroughs 6, Hart 0--Claudio Navarette tied a school record with five assists for Burroughs (9-5-2, 1-0-1) in a Foothill League match at Burroughs.
Miguel Meneses scored two goals for Burroughs.
Saugus 2, Valencia 1--Jeff Hammond scored two early goals and the Centurions (11-2-3, 1-0-1) held in a Foothill League match at Saugus.
Village Christian 8, Vasquez 0--Darin Chu and Saro Amirian each scored two first-half goals for the Crusaders (9-2-1, 4-0) in an Alpha League match at Village Christian.
Fillmore 5, Carpinteria 2--Luis Abrego scored on a free kick from 20 yards to break a 1-1 tie six minutes before halftime and give the Flashes (8-0, 5-0) the lead for good in a Tri-Valley League match at Fillmore.
Francisco Zavala has scored in all eight games for Fillmore.
Oak Park 4, Bishop Diego 3--Russell Prior scored three goals for the visiting Eagles (6-4-1, 2-2) in a Tri-Valley League game.
Granada Hills 3, San Fernando 1--Jon Paul Roepke, Andres Calis and WilberthContreras scored for the Highlanders (3-3-2, 1-3-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Granada Hills.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Claremont Mudd Scripps 59, Cal Lutheran 51--BrandieMurrish scored 20 points for the Regals (6-4) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener at Claremont Mudd Scripps.
Andee Whalen scored 17 points for the Athenas (9-4).
The Master’s 96, Patten 57--Kim De Vries made 10 of 12 shots and finished with 23 points to lead the Mustangs in a nonconference game at Patten College in Oakland.
Elizabeth Hansell scored 22 points for Master’s, hitting eight of 14 shots.
The Mustangs held a 50-26 halftime lead.
Sara Herkenhoff added 10 points for Master’s, which shot 50.7%.
