The Colorado Avalanche might be losing star players and late-game leads, but they haven’t lost their ability to win big games.
In a game that had playoff intensity, Valeri Kamensky scored at 3:55 of overtime to give the Avalanche a 4-3 victory and end Pittsburgh’s 14-game unbeaten streak.
The Avalanche had blown a three-goal lead and lost goaltender Patrick Roy because of a sprained thumb.
Pittsburgh was 12-0-2 since the middle of December. Rookie goaltender Patrick Lalime finally lost after going 14-0-2, the best in NHL history for a goaltender at the start of his career.
Florida 4, Boston 1--The Panthers may have broken out of their slump with a decisive victory at Boston. Radek Dvorak had two goals and an assist and John Vanbiesbrouck made 28 saves to end the Panthers’ four-game losing streak.
St. Louis 4, Vancouver 3--Brett Hull scored two third-period goals, including the game-winner with 1:14 left, as the Blues won at Vancouver.
